INTRODUCTION

Our Nutritional Background

We understand how important food and nutrition is for our children’s health and wellbeing, being a positive influence on children knowledge, behaviour and attitude towards a healthy eating. We know the importance of healthy bodies and healthy minds and how vital it is for children to eat the right food for growth and development. It has been proven that if children eat healthy in their early years they go on to make healthy choices throughout their lives.

OUR CHEF

Meet Sergio of Nursery Chef

Our chef Sergio holds an NVQ level 2 in Food Safety and Catering, along with a wealth of experience as a chef. Sergio prepares all meals and snacks each day on the premises, we believe in providing home cooked delicious meals and encourage the children to take a healthy interest in food. We have recently introduced our nursery kitchen so our children can plant and grown food that is then harvested and used in our meals at the nursery.

DAILY ROUTINE

Table Manners, Dietary & Activities

We encourage our children to practice good table manners, they use cutlery and serve themselves from serving dishes and scrape their own plates clean once they have finished. We encourage them to wait patiently before they begin, eat with their mouths closed, and no elbows on the table, just like they are taught at home.

Our children enjoy breakfast, a two course lunch and Tea with us at nursery and we recommend children  eat another meal with their family at home. Our menus are changed seasonally on a four week rotation, all our menu’s are checked and adjusted by an external executive chef and nutritionist. For our babies under one years old our staff work closely with the parents / carers to ensure the child’s individual feeding routine is consistent with home.

Children are provided with water and milk during the day, full fat milk is served for our under 2’s and semi skimmed for our children over two years old. Milk provides important nutrients including calcium, protein, vitamin A and Zinc.Drinking water is available at all times for the children, its recommended that children drink between 6-8 glasses a day. As recommended by nutritionists we do not serve squash or fruit juices, they give little nutrients, encourage children’s liking for sweet tastes and fill children up between meals.

Cooking activities are a popular part of nursery life and the children love to take part in food tasting sessions, we celebrate different cultures and festivals and enjoy learning about and discovering different foods from around the world.

We operate a nut free policy and Sergio is qualified in catering for your child’s specific dietary needs including:

• Weaning Foods
• Gluten Free
• Dairy Free
• Allergen Free
• Vegetarian
